A concoction of wistful, ethereal melodies, a gentle beauty and mystery produces the world with style icons like Lana Del Rey (born Elizabeth Grant). It begins with her stage name, a three-part mystery full of hidden meanings we don't dare question, followed by her signature partially parted lips (still can't put my finger on the botox or not). One would mistake her for just being a model, until she whispers those famous soft words. “This is the last time, ‘cause you and I, we were born to die.”

spotlight: riusuke fukahori

I thought: “Why has it taken me so long to notice this beauty? This little fish will surely save me." I then began to paint goldfish and now, 11 years later, I am still painting them. 

Inspiration is truly hard to find when you're looking in all the wrong places. 6 months and a couple of thousands of dollars later (thanks to bland commerce), I'm now a loud 'n' proud Media (PR and advertising)/ Law student! I've come to realise how important it is to stick with your gut instincts and if you work hard enough at something you enjoy, you will be nothing short of successful.

Here's living proof-Risuke Fukahori. Struggling with maintaining his dream of being a painter, he was inspired by his pet goldfish, which simply waited patiently in a moss-ridden tank for 7 years to be recognised. It's now his lifelong theme as a contemporary artist. His work is amazing, using acrylic on clear resin, poured layer upon layer to achieve unique three-diamensional art.

As my first post, I owe it to you to explain me, 'vis-à-vis', and what this is all about. Creativity sustains me, keeps me hungry for more, to seek and to be vis-à-vis (face to face/in relation to) with all-things-creative. That's the philosophy for this blog, and the drive that pushed me to start this. I've always been a hands-on girl; cutting out pieces from fashion magazines, scrap-booking in copious amounts of unfinished journals, baking my heart out until the early hours of the a.m- and I realised I'd like to share it with the rest of the world. 

On a spontaneous note, I bought my first RUSSH magazine at central station. It's hard to choose a fashion magazine when there are so many out there, all with a stronger focus on specific areas of life, fashion, and love. But this one caught my eye- April. May 2012. The simplicity of the front cover, without all the busy letters crowded around the sides, and the words, "be foolish, stay hungry."

This whole issue was based on the "courage to take a chance," despite an unwillingness to take necessary sacrifices. It's about being assertive and free with your creative mind, to fear less and live the path less travelled (not to mention the amazing quality of the editorial shoots). 

I almost feel like this issue was made just for me.
